The
Glycemic Research Institute in Washington, D.C. announced
today its new alliance with P. Gators, Inc.
CEO and Founder
of P.Gators, Inc., Paul E. Hiles, stated, “We are
very excited to be partnering with the Glycemic Research Institute
in the quest to prevent childhood obesity and diabetes. We believe
that this alliance will bring awareness to childhood obesity,
and present steps that can be taken to prevent this epidemic.”
As of May
2008, in the US, nearly one in three children
reaches a BMI greater than 35 by adolescence. A BMI of 25 or above
signals overweight, and a BMI of 30 or above signals obesity.
This qualifies as an epidemic.
